Our Story

Best Behaviour started in Mount Maunganui with a curiosity to take rum in new directions and help build a stronger culture around it here in New Zealand. While much of the category draws on Caribbean heritage, pirates, sailing and folklore, we wanted to explore what contemporary rum could look like from our corner of the world.

The name comes from a phrase almost everyone knows. “Be on your best behaviour.” Usually a warning to fit in, behave and do what’s expected. Best Behaviour flips that. It’s the polite nod while having every intention of remaining unapologetically yourself. That attitude became the foundation of the rum, the brand and the Garage we call home.

We’re a small independent crew with no interest in making premium feel exclusive. Best Behaviour is about quality rum and the culture that grows around it. Small-batch, barrel-aged and built for easy drinking, whoever happens to pull up a chair.
